The Approval Rules section is where System Administrators define the multi-step verification chains for sensitive data changes. By configuring these rules, you ensure that every update to the "Human Core" database follows your organization's internal governance policies.
Overview of Approval Rules
An approval rule is a sequential workflow. For a change request to be finalized and the data updated, it must pass through every step defined in the rule.
- The Success Path: If every designated approver in the chain selects "Approve," the request is cleared, and the member's profile or job history is updated automatically.
- The Rejection Path: If an approver at any step selects "Reject," the entire procedure stops immediately. The request is marked as rejected, and no changes are made to the database.

Step Types: Defining the Approvers
When building or editing a rule, you can add multiple steps. Each step must be assigned one of three specific types:
1. Specific Person
- How it works: You select a specific individual from the employee directory.
- Usage: Best for specialized oversight, such as a specific "Head of HR" or a "Compliance Officer" who must review every request of a certain type.
2. Manager (Reports To)
- How it works: This is a dynamic step. The system automatically identifies the Manager listed in the Job History of the person who initiated the change request.
- Usage: Essential for standard reporting lines. The requester's direct supervisor becomes the receiver/approver for that specific step.
3. Role
- How it works: You select a predefined role (e.g., "System Administrator" or "Department Manager").
- Usage: Any person currently assigned to that role can act as the approver. Once one person in the role approves the step, the request moves to the next stage.
Creating and Managing Rules
- Create Rule: Use the + Create Rule button in the top right to start a new workflow. You will define a Rule Name and a Description to explain its purpose.
- Sidebar Navigation: All existing rules (e.g., HR Approval, Manager Approval) are listed in the left sidebar for quick editing.
